Team Member Spotlight - Jeremy Hooker

On this month's Team Member Monday, we are spotlighting Jeremy Hooker, one of our Consultant Pharmacists here at BetterRX. He leads with compassion every day and always puts the hospice patients' comfort first. If you’d like to learn more about Jeremy, read below!

1. How long have you been with BetterRX, and what do you do for the team?

I’ve had the privilege of being a part of the BetterRX family for about 18 months as a Clinical Pharmacist. In my role, I work with our amazing team to:

• Create clinical guidance materials and tools to help hospice teams efficiently optimize symptom management cost-effectively
• Develop educational resources for patients and caregivers to address frequently asked questions and concerns, complementing the education provided by the hospice staff
• Constantly think about a better way to care for patients and support the incredible work done every single day by the hospice agencies that serve them

2. What's your favorite part about working for BetterRX?

It’s incredibly satisfying to be part of a team that puts the hospice patient at the heart of all discussions, decisions, and future planning. In an industry with a tendency to prioritize the bottom line, always placing the hospice patient and their family first feels so rewarding.

3. What's the best place you've ever traveled to?

In the fall of 2022, my family had the chance to travel to Barcelona and Mallorca. The trip provided some unforgettable experiences for which I am incredibly thankful, including a game and Camp Nou, a glimpse of Gaudi's genius at Park Guell, and the inarticulable beauty of a hidden Mediterranean cove. 

4. What's one story you love to tell, but rarely get a chance to?

The one about the night my dad, brother, and I founded and participated in the inaugural Canadian Midnight Aquatic Innertube Olympics…under the (northern) lights. See me for more details…

6. What's the best advice you have ever received?

Learn to love what must be done.

7. What motivates/inspires you?

That I am part of a team that is doing deeply meaningful work by helping to clear barriers impeding comfort at the end of life, allowing for space and attention to be spent where it should be: in the moment with the dying.
