VP Pharmacy Operations

Summary

The VP, Pharmacy Operations is a key leader ensuring that BetterRX delivers a truly world-class pharmacy network, clinical support system, and data operations structure.

    The Vice President of Pharmacy Operations is a senior leadership role responsible for optimizing and scaling BetterRX’s national pharmacy network, clinical operations, pharmacy data processing, and claims adjudication functions. This leader will own pharmacy network strategy, operational coverage, pricing and cost management, clinical services oversight, pharmacy data workflows, and data visualization improvements that support internal teams and BetterRX clients.

    The VP plays a pivotal role in shaping BetterRX’s pharmacy and clinical strategy while ensuring operational excellence across pharmacy partners, internal teams, and cross-functional groups. The role also supports enterprise sales and client-facing data improvements to strengthen pharmacy transparency and value.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Pharmacy Network Ownership & Expansion

    • Lead the strategy, performance, and continuous improvement of BetterRX’s national pharmacy network.
    • Ensure coverage adequacy, SLA alignment, courier capabilities, and high-quality hospice medication fulfillment.
    • Oversee pharmacy partner contracting, audits, onboarding, and service quality improvement.
    • Expand and improve network capabilities to drive cost efficiency, reliability, and visibility.

    2. Pricing, Cost Management & Margin Optimization

    • Build and manage pricing frameworks for pharmacy and courier operations.
    • Collaborate with Finance and the CPhO on cost modeling, forecasting, and margin optimization.
    • Lead negotiations with pharmacy partners, wholesalers, and related service vendors.

    3. Clinical Services & Support Leadership

    • Provide executive oversight of Clinical Services/Support Teams to drive clinical quality and medication safety.
    • Enhance triage, consultation, and documentation workflows to ensure consistent and compliant care.
    • Support development of clinical standards and training across all operations.

    4. Pharmacy Data Processing & Administration (Including Claims Adjudication)

    • Own the end-to-end Pharmacy Data Processing and Administration function, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
    • Lead the claims adjudication process, including workflows, quality controls, partner interfaces, and escalation management.
    • Implement automation, audit controls, and continuous improvement in claims and data processing systems.
    • Ensure alignment of data processing with pharmacy network operations, cost management, and client-facing reporting.

    5. Data Visualization & Analytics Leadership

    • Lead the development of pharmacy and clinical performance dashboards and analytics tools.
    • Collaborate with CX, Pharmacy, Product, and Engineering to enhance internal and client-facing visualizations.
    • Define SLAs, KPIs, and data integrity standards for operations, claims, and pharmacy performance.

    6. Enterprise Sales & GTM Support

    • Act as the pharmacy operations SME in enterprise sales engagements.
    • Provide operational insights, cost modeling, service descriptions, and network capabilities for proposals and RFPs.
    • Develop materials and narratives that demonstrate BetterRX’s differentiated pharmacy and data capabilities.

    7. Cross-Functional Leadership & Alignment

    • Ensure seamless execution between the Director of Pharmacy Operations, Director of Pharmacy, and their teams.
    • Partner with CX to enhance reporting, escalation handling, and pharmacy-performance communication.
    • Collaborate with Product and Engineering to influence roadmaps that enhance pharmacy transparency, automation, and data workflows.
    • Support the CPhO and executive leadership with analytics, strategic recommendations, and operational insights.

    8. Operational Excellence & Compliance

    • Develop and maintain SOPs, quality frameworks, and scalable operational processes.
    • Ensure regulatory compliance across pharmacy operations, data processing, and claims handling.
    • Drive continuous improvement using technology, analytics, and standardized processes.

    9. Leadership, Culture & Team Development

    • Build, mentor, and develop high-performing teams across pharmacy operations, clinical services, and data processing.
    • Promote a culture of accountability, quality, compassion, and data-driven decision-making.
    • Support team leadership pathways and succession planning efforts.

    • Pharmacy network coverage and SLA performance
    • Claims adjudication accuracy, timeliness, and cost efficiency
    • Cost management and overall margin improvements
    • Internal and client-facing pharmacy reporting adoption & accuracy
    • Reduction in data processing errors or rework
    • Client satisfaction improvements tied to pharmacy operations and data transparency
    • Enterprise sales support effectiveness (deal wins, speed, clarity of value)
    • Alignment and operational execution across pharmacy, clinical, and data teams

    Qualifications

    Required

    • 10+ years leading pharmacy operations or multi-site pharmacy environments (hospice, LTC, PBM, retail, or specialty).
    • Experience with pharmacy data processing, claims adjudication, or payer-side workflows.
    • Strong financial and operational acumen related to cost, pricing, and contracting.
    • Proven leadership of clinical, pharmacy support, or data processing teams.
    • Deep experience with analytics, reporting tools, and operational dashboards.
    • Experience supporting enterprise sales or complex healthcare partnerships.
    • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder leadership skills.

    Preferred

    • PharmD, RPh, MBA, MHA, or equivalent advanced experience.
    • Hospice or end-of-life care pharmacy experience.
    • Familiarity with adjudication systems, NCPDP standards, or payer communication protocols.
    • Experience partnering with Product/Engineering on data systems and workflow automation.
